County Offaly Citizens Information Services Ltd. was established in 1999, as a non-profit Company, Limited by Guarantee and with Charitable Status in tax law. This brought together two already existing Citizens Information Centres, Tullamore and Edenderry respectively under a Board of Management. A third office in Birr was later incorporated into the company in 2001.
The Service is funded by the Citizens Information Board.
County Offaly Citizen Information Services (Offaly CIS) provides individuals with information and advice on all your rights and entitlements. Currently Offaly Citizens Information services have 3 main Offices, Tullamore, Edenderry and Birr, with an outreach in Clara. Currently the service employs one full time manager, 10 part-time staff and 6, of which fall under the community employment scheme which are essential to the service. Also, Offaly CIS has 56 fully qualified volunteer information providers who offer an average 2.5 hrs of service to Offaly CIS per week. The service is free, confidential and independent and is part of a network of over 80 centres throughout the country.
